Why Agadir
Agadir is where trekkers come to let their legs forget the High Atlas. Rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake, it trades thin mountain air for sea level and over 300 days of sun a year along a 10 km crescent of warm sand — the soft, horizontal counterpoint to a week on the ridgelines. But it is more than a sunlounger: the city is the natural base for the Souss-side approaches into the mountains, with the palm-shaded waterfall pools of Paradise Valley carved into the Anti-Atlas an hour inland, and the surf village of Taghazout strung along the coast just north. Walk the bay to recover, then follow the canyons inland when the itch to climb returns.
What to see
A 10 km golden arc with warm, calm water and a level seafront walk — exactly the gentle, horizontal day tired knees want after the high passes.
A bohemian surf village 20 minutes north where point breaks, yoga and argan co-ops swap mountain effort for a slower coastal rhythm.
An hour inland, palm-fringed pools and waterfalls cut into the Anti-Atlas — a short canyon ramble and a swim, and the easiest taste of trekking terrain from the coast.
The hilltop fortress ruins, reached by cable car, looking out over the bay one way and the brown wall of the Anti-Atlas the other — the range that feeds the Souss-side trails.

It is one of the best. After days at altitude on cold granite, a warm, flat bay and sea-level sun are exactly what tired legs ask for — and unlike windswept Essaouira, Agadir's water stays calm and swimmable. Build in two or three nights to truly let the trail dust settle.
Yes — the trekking hook here is the Anti-Atlas rising directly behind the city. Paradise Valley puts you in canyon-and-pool walking terrain about an hour away, and Agadir is the practical base for Souss-side approaches into the range, so it works as both a wind-down and a quieter trailhead.
