Good to know

Practical notes

  • M'Goun is wilder and emptier than Toubkal — long days of 5–8 hours at altitude, with river-gorge walking, so a good trekking base is essential.
  • The gorge days involve repeated river crossings; we time the trek for lower water (late spring to autumn) and you bring quick-drying footwear.
  • Nights are a mix of mule-supported camps and Berber gîtes.

Frequently asked

How high is Jbel M'Goun?

Ighil M'Goun is 4,068m, Morocco's third-highest summit, in the remote central High Atlas above the Aït Bougmez valley. It is slightly lower than Toubkal but far more remote.

Is the M'Goun trek harder than Toubkal?

It is longer and more committing rather than higher — six days at altitude with long days and river-gorge walking — so it suits experienced trekkers who want wilderness over a quick summit.
