Why Atlas Mountains
This is the heart of everything we do. The High Atlas wall throws itself up from the Marrakech plain, and barely an hour out of the city you step from the minibus at Imlil (1,740m) into a different country: stone hamlets clinging to terraced slopes, walnut and cherry orchards crowding the meltwater streams, and footpaths trodden by muleteers and shepherds for generations. From here the trail threads up through Aroumd and past the white shrine of Sidi Chamharouch to the refuges below Jbel Toubkal — at 4,167m the highest summit in North Africa. Come for a single day on the Berber paths, a lodge weekend among the walnut groves, or a guided two-to-three-day ascent with mules carrying the loads; in these mountains the names turn to Tamazight and the silence is broken only by goat bells and running water.
What to see
The staging village where every ascent is kitted out — load the mules, lunch at Kasbah du Toubkal, then warm up on the path to Aroumd or the shrine at Sidi Chamharouch.
A two-day, mule-supported push to the 4,167m summit — a long scree slog rather than a technical climb in summer, but ice axe and crampons in winter snow.
The gentler foothill walk nearest Marrakech: riverside Berber villages, the Monday souk and the scramble up the seven Setti Fatma cascades.
Lower, greener trailhead villages with boutique mountain lodges — softer days for those acclimatising or skipping the summit altogether.

No — a licensed mountain guide has been mandatory for the Toubkal summit since 2018, and we pair you with a Berber guide from the valley we work with. Beyond the rule, the upper scree and winter snowfields are no place to be route-finding alone.
Very much so. The lower villages of Asni, Ouirgane and the Ourika valley offer comfortable lodge stays laced with short Berber-path walks, so plenty of guests treat the High Atlas as a slow, two-night decompression from Marrakech rather than a hard climb.
